Michele Watson

Counsellor and Psychotherapist

Are you overcome by emotion or finding it difficult to navigate your way through challenges in your life? Do you feel alone, lost or overwhelmed? Perhaps you have been bereaved, are depressed or anxious or have lost your drive and direction in work or life?

You may feel you can’t or don’t want to talk to people close to you. Talking it through in counselling can help to lift the cloud.

My aim is to help you cope with the challenges, conflicts and transitions in life, heal wounds that might stand in your way, overcome negative patterns of thinking and behaviour and find solutions to problems.

Whatever it is, we can talk about it at your pace, make sense of your experiences, explore your options, and together find a better way forward.

How Counselling Can Help

A safe and supportive environment provides an opportunity to speak openly about what you are feeling and to be listened to empathically and without any judgment.

Counselling will enable you to look more deeply at current difficulties and to think about how the past may be affecting the present. You can work towards making sense of your current situation: your reactions and behaviours and your thoughts and feelings, including those of which you are less aware.

Gaining insight and clarity can bring about a sense of relief and along with this will bring an improvement in your health and well-being.

Counselling can help you in the following ways

  • Developing new coping strategies
  • Finding new ways of responding and relating
  • Working through unfinished business
  • Reflecting on unresolved grief and loss
  • Building awareness of your thoughts, behaviours, feelings and motivation
  • Developing more capaicity to deal with issues
  • Recognising what you really want, prioritising, negotiating and asserting yourself in order to make positive changes

Why people seek counselling

  • Stress, anxiety or panic attacks
  • Depression and low mood
  • Uncertainty in relationships. It may be hard to see how things can improve
  • Overwhelming anger or frustration
  • Indecision or confusion
  • You may feel stuck and feel you are just existing
  • A sense of emptiness or detachment
  • Feeling flat or even numbness that prevents you from feeling deeply about anything; nothing brings joy, excitement or enthusiasm
  • Grief, sadness or loss

About Me

I am a Senior Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy with over 20 years experience working in a large GP surgery in the beautiful market town of Saffron Walden. I am also a supervisor and mental health assessor.

In my new consulting room in the centre of Saffron Walden I offer a safe and supportive environment where the wellbeing of every client is paramount.

I work from a person centred approach offering a very supportive and confidential place in order to help people work through what is troubling them.

I specialise in many different issues, such as depression, anxiety, bereavement and domestic violence and abuse. I have a particular interest in identifying and treating stress and “burn out” over a broad range of professions and the consequences of work related demands. This is an ever increasing problem and often goes undetected.

I also work with young adults from the age of 16 years who perhaps present with academic anxiety and difficulties relating to school.

I participate regularly in continuing professional development to expand my knowledge on current research and clinical practice in counselling and psychotherapy and I undertake professional supervision to ensure the ethical practice and best practice guidelines laid down by my governing body.

When our lives are out of balance and we are overwhelmed by life’s stressors, I can assist you to make the changes necessary to improve your life and your wellbeing once again.
